Covid-19 Vaccination, Treatment & Tests

To keep your immunity levels high, stay up to date with your immunisations 

From 20 January 2025, the Pfizer JN.1 monovalent vaccine is available. This is an updated vaccine targeting recent strains. COVID-19 vaccines are free.

Vaccinations are available on weekdays from 9.30a.m. 

 

If you are 30 years of age and over

If you are 30 years of age and over, you can have an additional dose regardless of the number of vaccines you have already had. It is recommended:

  • you wait at least 6 months since you had COVID-19
  • you wait at least 6 months since you had a COVID-19 vaccine.

If you are unsure if you have had COVID-19 recently or would like to have an additional dose before 6 months, you can discuss this with the team. 

Additional doses are especially recommended for:

  • people aged 65 and older
  • Māori and Pacific people aged 50 and older
  • residents of aged care facilities
  • severely immunocompromised people 
  • people aged 12 years and over who have a medical condition that increases the risk of severe illness from COVID-19. 

If you are 16 to 29 years of age

Healthy people aged 16 to 29 can have 1 additional dose.

To get an additional dose: 

  • you must have had at least your 2 initial COVID-19 immunisations
  • it is recommended you wait at least 6 months since your last COVID-19 vaccine or infection.

Additional doses for 16 to 29 year olds at high risk

Some people aged 16 to 29 can have additional doses.

This includes: 

  • severely immunocompromised people 
  • pregnant people
  • those who have a medical condition that increases the risk of severe illness from COVID-19
  • those who live with disability with significant or complex health needs or multiple comorbidities. 

You may be eligible to get COVID-19 antiviral medicines from our pharmacy if you have tested positive, or have COVID-19 symptoms in the last FIVE days AND are a Household contact of a positive case.

To be eligible you must also either be:

  • 65 years or older 

  • 50 years or older and Maori or Pacific ethnicity

  • have had a previous admission to ICU directly as a result of COVID-19 

  • with sickle cell disease 

  • with very weakened immune system, 

  • with Down syndrome 

  • with a combination of several risk factors such as:

    • having complex health needs or disability

    • not having completed the full COVID-19 vaccine course yet and aged 50 years or over.

You might also be eligible if you:

  • are taking regular medicines

  • are older

  • are of Māori or Pacific Island ethnicity

  • have complex health needs or disability

  • are not up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations.
