Strawberry Thief adaptation from a furnishing textile design is reproduced on this beautiful card from the Victoria & Albert range of  Museums & Galleries

Created by William Morris (18434-96) in Merton Abbey, England, in 1883.

Strawberry Thief is one of Morris' most popular repeating designs for textiles.  

It takes as its subject the thrushes that Morris found stealing fruit in the kitchen garden of his countryside home, Kelmscott Manor, in Oxfordshire.

William Morris, designer, artist and writer, was the central figure in the British Arts and Crafts Movement.  

A committed conservationalist and Socialist, he dedicated his life to the idea that art should improve the lives of ordinary people.
