Mary Delany's stunning works are a remarkable combination of art and science. Often mistaken for watercolours, they are in fact carefully constructed paper collages, or 'mosaicks' as she called them.  In the autumn of 1772, the 72 year old wrote to her niece, modestly stating, "I have invented a new way of imitating flowers".
