Lacquered writing box decoration, design reproduced on this beautiful card from the Victoria & Albert range of  Museums & Galleries as from the Workshop of Nakayama Komin, Japan, 1860-70.

The decorative writing box is adjoined with a Chinese table in takamaki-e (high sprinkled picture), inlaid shell, gold foil, and red on a black lacquer background.  The  interior and tray depict autumn plants in togidashi-e (polished out picture) on course nashiji (pear skin) ground. This contains an inkstone and silver water bottle in the shape of a chrysanthemum.  Featuring silver rims and gold mounts. - Victoria & Albert Collection
