William De Morgan was one of the most innovative ceramic designers of his day.

A lifelong friend of William Morris, he designed tiles, stained glass and furniture for Morris & Co. from 1863 to 1872.

Like many Arts and Crafts designers of the late 19th century, De Morgan took great inspiration from the beauty of the natural world.

Fauna & Flowers and foliage were used as the basis of many De Morgan tile designs, often highly stylised for bold effect and adaptable for repeating patterns.
