Katsushika Hokusai (1760 - 1849)
Detail from a colour woodblock print, 1831
From the series Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji
From a beautiful Museums & Galleries collection of Bookmarks featuring art in a range of designs, comes The British Museums Under the Wave, off Kanagawa (The Great Wave) Katsushika Hokushai.
Created in late 1831 during the Edo period of Japanese history, the print depicts three boats moving through a storm-tossed sea, with a large, cresting wave forming a spiral in the centre and Mount Fuji visible in the background.
The print is Hokusai's best-known work and the first in his series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, in which the use of Prussian blue revolutionised Japanese prints.
Made from durable textured FSC-accredited board with a coordinating navy ribbon.
