Painted in 2012, Clare Reilly's At the Pool depicts two Kereru upon red leaved boughs by a pool of water. 

"The presence of birds in my paintings became a vehicle of movement, small messengers of calm, peace and beauty."

Along with these, the visual pull of water has been a keen element of Clare's painting life.

Clare Reilly is a much-admired New Zealand painter, best known for her vibrant and detailed works of native New Zealand birds in their natural environments. Her painting career began in 1976 with her debut exhibition in Wellington along with a group of six other emerging Wellington artists. This was to be the beginning of her lifelong journey in painting.
